need help choosing a security system for my home?

elena asked:

i have moved to a new home and sadly we live next to a family that is made up of young people and two elderly brother and sister and the old lady is very sweet but her brother is a smoker, drinker, talkative, noisy, nosy, and very disrespectful. since the day we moved in they wanted to know the price of our home and other personal things. we have a lot of trees that give us fruit like lemons, peaches and oranges and one day when they came to our front lawn to get some peaches and the old man told us that when the house was for sale and alone he would come to the backyard and get some oranges from the tree and that made us concerned because i asked myself does he still go to our backyard while we are not home and my husband and i decided to fix our 2 backyard gates or doors because the doors didn’t close that good and well they are not much security because anyone can open and close them easily and just recently my mother who is living us told me she saw in the old man enter our backyard and i don’t know if it was night or day but i would like to install a home security system but that requires a lot of money and my two question are:

1) what home security agency is very good and cheap and overall has good reviews and

2) is there a device sold at a home store like staples that we can put a device in our backyard doors and if someone tries to open it an alarm goes off inside the home?

well if you know any security home agency that is recommended can you tell us and stores that i can go to to buy a security system.also so i don’t have to spend a lot of money what ideas can you give so i can make my own security system like put bells so we know when someone opens the gate or leave a piece of string so when we check on it we can see if it has been ripped or torn or idk.help will be appreciated

Good or cheap, you can have one or the other. ADT is suppose to be good.

I built my own. I bought electronic dogs that barked when shadow passed over them or at night a flashlight beam . I then hooked up motion sensors to outside lights & one outlet inside & put a small light near the dogs. That way outsiders think dogs are in the house & you get a sonic indicator of movement at night.

There are a lot of factors to take into account when choosing a system for you home. First check around to see just how many doors and windows you want to protect. Then decide where you want the entrance keypads and alarm boxes to go.

Once you figure these things out then you can get an idea about the type of system you will need.

When looking for a home security company, check their license, overall fees and insurance coverage. These three things are very important.

A basic monitored house alarm system includes:

    1) Control panels. This is the power source of the entire house alarm system. Typically, the control panel is hidden from plain sight – located in the back of a closet or in your garage – and is connected to all other alarm components including a standard phone line.

    2) Security keypads. These are installed inside the main entrance of your home and allow you and your family to activate and deactivate the system with the push of a few buttons. A digital display notes whether the system is armed or disarmed. Additional panels can be set up and installed in other locations throughout your home – either by another exit or in a master bedroom so you can trigger it if you hear an intruder while in the house – for a fee (up to $100 per extra keypad).

    3) Motion detectors. Also known as passive infrared (PIR) detectors, these devices sense changes in infrared energy levels when an intruder is present, even if no break-in is detected. They are typically installed indoors at walls, doors, windows, and air ducts.

    4) Door and window contacts. These magnetic devices are placed along door jams and window frames and trigger the alarm system when opened.

    5) Sirens. Loud bells, horns, and/or strobe lights can be installed inside and outside your home to draw immediate attention to the intrusion.

and more features which you can also customized for your home’s specific needs.

You can check out Security Companies on the web or you can purchase and install your own alarms. There are several to choose from and you can start out small then add more. The Voice Alert system can be programmed by you with your voice and will alert you to intruders. The HomeSafe Wireless system holds 5 preset phone numbers (you set them) to be called when a sensor is tripped. These or any number of individual door/window alarms and motion sensors can provide you with security without monthly fees. To find out more, please feel free to look at them at my web site, listed in Source.
