That’s my weapon of choice for home security. Shot one a few times and loved it.

It has been proven that the best home security weapon is a 12 gauge shotgun.
If you want to use a handgun round, man up and use a .45 ACP or a .357 Mag.

Personally I think its impractical. Get either a good handgun with or a shot gun.
the mp5k is good for close quarters but I don’t think you’re gonna need a gun that goes full auto on some intruder.
But its up to you, I personally think its impractical because of the cost since an mp5k is rather pricey compared to a shotgun or a handgun.

I have spent my time behind a trigger of an MP5. They are much more reliable now then they were in the past. The full-auto version would probably work well as a home defense weapon but there are reasons not to use it in that capacity.
Full auto is expensive and the licensing process can be tedious. Since if you use a weapon is self defense you will probably never see it again it is best not to use a $15,000 weapon.
Plus the last thing you want to the jury in a civil suit (if you use lethal force you WILL be sued) is a big bad machine gun..
I am not against the 9mm round per se. I carry a Glock 19 loaded with +P+ rounds and I am well armed. The advantage of 9mm is that it is light and easily controllable, meaning you can carry and handle it everywhere. But if you are at home and do not have to worry about concealment and can shoulder the weapon then you can seriously increase the stopping power.
I recommend the a 20 gauge shotgun cut down to the shortest legal length. You can buy one even shorter if you but the same permit that allows you to get a full auto weapon. 20 gauge has the exact same knock down power on a person as the 12 gauge but is easier on the shoulder and way easier to get a good follow up shot (or shots) in the place you want it.
The MP5 is a great weapon but there are better for home defense.

No. Spraying the entire neighborhood with 115 grain bullets is just not the way to impress people. 9mm will penetrate a LOT of wood/sheetrock. Like into the next house penetration. Unless you live in a brick house, in which case the richochets will kill you and the family as well as the bad guy.
A shotgun is the best possible weapon, with the least chance of doing collateral damage to the rest of the block. An 18″ barrel, loaded with #6 shot, will stop any bad guy you wish to try it on, but won’t kill the neighbor in his bed.
They are fun to play with though… my favorite model is the SD.
