Does anyone know about how much value a home security system adds to a home?
Confused asked:
It makes sense that having a home security system adds value to your home. Is there a certain criteriea used to estimate a percentage that it does increase with that system?

Create a video blog…instantly.
Depends on how extensive the coverage is….perimeter hard wired or portable window door units and if there are accessory motion units for back up if a perimeter is violated…is there an exyernal horn or connection to alarm center/or police dept….is there conventional line hook up or wireless?…..Do you have fire/smoke glass breakage alarms also…water sprinklers? ….many factors to consider in getting an upgrade on the cost recouping when you go to sell your house.
Home alarms also save a percentage on your home insurance….so it is a good value that saves right off!!!

How much it cost (x) times about 2.5 (the extra1.5 is for the hassle of you doing it not them). Round to the nearest 500.
So if it cost 500 to buy the equipment and install it it would be 500 x 2.5 = 1,250 rounded up 1,500.

On your “average” home, I can’t see it increasing the value any. Most people don’t want the extra cost per month for monitoring. Worse case scenario is that potential buyers may think it is a bad neighborhood.
