139.536 Craftsman Garage Door Motion Detector?

clinton984 asked:

The wires to the motion detector on my Craftsman split. I don’t have the time or money to fix. Is there a way to disable the motion detectors so the door can go down without stopping because one of the motion detectors is not working?

Thanks.

That is a very poor decision. The safety mechanism was put in to prevent the door from killing someone. Disconnecting it puts all who may come around it in danger!
Replacment wire is cheap, but a wrongful death lawsuit isn’t.

Before the use of the electric eye,the doors were pressure sensitive. They nornally were adjusted with a roll of paper towels. Set to reverse before the roll was crushed. Don’t do it. You’ll never be able to forgive yourself.

To answer your question, no there is no way to bypass residential safety sensors so that a door opener will operate without them. If the wires have broken somewhere along their path then you can just twist them back together (matching the two wire colors), wrap them with electrical tape, and you’re back in business – not much time and no money spent! Otherwise, a bad sensor means speanding a little money for the part or putting up with an annoying door for a while.
